Students and teachers at McLurg School will have to wait a while longer to go back to their school.
According to a post on its website, repairs haven’t been completed at the Regina school. It was closed April 3 due to flooding caused by a water main break.
Students were sent to other schools to continue their classes while repairs were made during the Easter break, but the fixes weren’t completed in time for the school to reopen Monday.
The post on the school’s website said Regina Public Schools had to make “significant changes to equipment” due to the flooding.
“Currently, there is no permanent electrical power in the school and we are working to replace and re-energize all required electrical needs for the building, such as heating and ventilation,” the post said. “At the same time, we are conducting all necessary measures to ensure that when the school reopens, it will be safe for students and staff alike.”
McLurg is now expected to reopen April 26. In the meantime, the arrangements made to get students to other schools will continue.
Currently, kids from McLurg are attending classes at Massey, Henry Janzen, Walker, Centennial, W.H. Ford and McDermid schools until their school is ready to reopen.
