A Regina man has been sentenced to life in prison in connection with a murder in the city dating back to December of 2021.
Percy Bernard Pascal initially was charged with first-degree murder, but he pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree murder on Wednesday in Regina Court of King’s Bench.
According to court documents, a joint proposal for sentencing was presented to the court. After it was accepted, Pascal, 38, was sentenced to life in prison without eligibility for parole for 18 years.
The documents said because he was arrested on Dec. 22, 2021, he won’t be able to apply for parole until Dec. 22, 2039.
Pascal also was ordered to provide a DNA sample and was handed a lifetime firearms prohibition.
On Dec. 16, 2021, police and firefighters responded to a call about a fire at a house in the 1400 block of Cameron Street. After firefighters extinguished the blaze, they found the body of a man inside the house.
The victim was subsequently identified as Morgan Blind, 24. Investigation by the coroner and the police determined Blind had been murdered.
