“(Property crimes) reflect an increase of 242 reported incidents over 2022 … We have seen an increase of 152 reported incidents of theft under $5,000 for a 23.8 (per cent) increase,” the report outlined. “There are 90 more reported incidents of mischief/wilful damage for a 45 (per cent) increase.”
Fortunately, the RPS’s year-to-date statistics show there have been 18 fewer car thefts for an overall decrease of 12.2 per cent, compared to 2022.
However, the RPS received 359 more reported incidents of crimes against people and property crimes combined in 2023 over 2022 for an increase of 19.7 per cent.
