A 36-year-old Regina man is facing a string of charges after a SWAT team and crisis negotiators helped rescue a woman who was allegedly being held against her will at a home on Retallack Street.
According to police, on April 18, officers received a report that a man had been shot and confined at a home on Angus Street. Two days later, police received a report that a woman had also been assaulted and confined at a home in the same block of Angus Street. Both victims were taken to hospital for treatment, police said.
Police said the following day, April 21, the investigation led officers to a home on Retallack.
“While on scene, police heard a firearm discharge from inside the residence,” police said in a statement. “Through investigation, it was determined that a person was being held against their will inside the residence at the time.”
More officers and the SWAT team were called in, and the Crisis Negotiation Team ultimately managed to convince “several people” to exit the home.
“The female victim also exited the residence; EMS was not required,” police added.
A search warrant for the home was obtained, and police said officers found multiple guns, ammunition and body armour inside.
Police said a 36-year-old Regina man was charged with three counts of forcible confinement, two counts each of aggravated assault and uttering threats, and one count each of armed robbery using a firearm, assault with a weapon, possession of a scheduled substance and numerous gun charges.
