A Regina woman is facing theft and fraud charges after three incidents, two of which involved seniors.
In a media release Monday, Regina police said they got the first call about the suspect last August.
An elderly woman told police that as she was getting ready to go out for lunch, she realized several pieces of jewelry were missing. Then, when she went to pay for her meal during her outing, she found her credit card also was missing.
“The victim called the credit card company to report it missing and was made aware of several fraudulent charges on the card from earlier in the week,” police said in the release. “The suspect was working as a cleaner for the victim and other residents in a seniors apartment complex.”
The second alleged victim lived in a different seniors complex, where police said the suspect worked as that woman’s cleaner as well.
Police said on Feb. 2, the woman realized her credit card was missing. When she looked at her credit card statement, she discovered several transactions she didn’t make.
According to police, the third woman involved was working as a care aide in the suspect’s home. In February, police said, the woman’s bank statement showed a number of fraudulent charges that had occurred over the previous month.
After investigation, police arrested the suspect on April 4. She was charged with four counts of theft of a credit card, two counts of theft over $5,000, and one count each of theft under $5,000 and fraud under $5,000.
She’s to make her first court appearance May 29.
