The 32nd annual Cathedral Village Arts Festival took over the streets of Regina’s Cathedral neighbourhood this week and it’s not done yet.
Cam Fraser, the festival’s chair, told the Greg Morgan Morning Show people should check out Bloc Rock II presented by Grind Central Records on Friday night.
“It’s back-to-back bands playing at the Cathedral Neighbourhood Centre, then the Mercury, then back to the neighbourhood centre, back to the Mercury,” he added. “Just back-and-forth awesome bands.”
The festival’s chair said the “always popular” street fair will be happening on Saturday.
“We have so many vendors and food trucks lining 13th Avenue in the neighbourhood,” he added. “(The) big top (will have) events for kids throughout the day.”
Fraser said local band Indigo Joseph will headline the big top on Saturday night.
“And again Grind Central Records curating an awesome evening of punk music at the neighbourhood centre,” he added.
According to Fraser, the festival is a staple of the community.
“So many people look forward to it,” he said. “(It’s) the highlight of the year.”
Without the support of local businesses, the festival wouldn’t be the success that it is, he said.
“We really want to invite people to come out and support them and check out the awesome things that they’re having,” Fraser added.
The festival has a special place in Fraser’s heart.
He and his family moved to Regina’s Cathedral neighbourhood in 2014 a couple of weeks before the festival and they started to feel really homesick when they arrived, he shared.
“We’ve moved across the country away from everyone we knew (and) every support,” Fraser said. “When the festival kicked off, we started to believe and feel that this was a neighbourhood we could call home.”
