A Regina man has been handed a 15-year prison sentence in connection with a killing in the city in December of 2021.
Dakota Clifford George Blondeau, 31, initially was charged with first-degree murder in the death of 24-year-old Morgan Blind. According to court documents, Blondeau pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of manslaughter during an appearance Monday in Regina Provincial Court.
With credit for time spent on remand, his sentence amounted to 4,987 days. He also was ordered to provide a DNA sample and was given a lifetime firearms prohibition.
Blondeau is the second man sentenced in the case. Percy Pascal pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last month and was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 18 years.
On Dec. 16, 2021, police and firefighters responded to a call about a fire at a house in the 1400 block of Cameron Street. After firefighters put out the fire, they found the body of a man inside the house.
The victim was subsequently identified as Blind. Investigation by the coroner and police determined his death was a homicide.
