Two people are facing charges after allegedly running away from a flipped SUV after a crash and leaving a loaded gun inside.
According to police, officers were called late Saturday evening for a report that an SUV had hit a parked vehicle and flipped onto its roof on Second Avenue North. The caller told police two occupants of the SUV ran away from the scene after the crash.
Inside the SUV, police said officers found a loaded gun and ammunition.
“Officers knew by the evidence at the scene and witness statements that the occupants of the vehicle were injured and required medical attention,” police said in a statement. “They began an investigation that led them to a nearby residence where they found a male and a female with injuries.”
Both were taken to hospital for treatment, police said, and both are now facing charges.
Police said a 51-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman are both charged with failing to stop after an accident, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle, and careless use of a firearm.
They’re scheduled to appear in court next month.
