Saskatchewan posted record-setting exports in 2022.
According to the provincial government, Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership (STEP) and the government released their annual State of Trade report for Saskatchewan on Tuesday. The report said the value of Saskatchewan exports last year was $52.6 billion, the highest figure ever recorded in the province’s history and 42 per cent higher than the record of $37 billion set in 2021.
“Saskatchewan exporters are among the best in the world, and our province continues to prove that we have the food, fuel and fertilizer the world needs,” Trade and Export Development Minister Jeremy Harrison said in a release. “These record exports show that businesses and industries in our province continue to be a dependable supplier of sustainable resources our partners need.”
The government said potash overtook crude oil as the province’s No. 1 export, but oil exports still increased by more than 50 per cent in 2022. Potash and oil now account for 56 per cent of the province’s exports, but the government said agri-food and manufactured goods also had record years in 2022.
