A 28-year-old Regina man is off to prison in connection with the city’s third homicide of 2020.
On Friday, Devon Wayne Cyr received a 14-year sentence from Court of King’s Bench Justice Richard Elson. A jury found Cyr guilty of manslaughter Feb. 28 after a trial.
According to court documents, with credit for time spent on remand, Cyr is to spend a little more than eight years and eight months behind bars.
Cyr initially was charged with second-degree murder in the drive-by shooting death of Isaiah Trent Allary on Jan. 25, 2020. Cyr pleaded not guilty when his trial began in Court of King’s Bench on Feb. 13.
After deliberating, the jury found Cyr guilty of the lesser offence of manslaughter.
On Jan. 25, 2020, police responded to a call about a gunshot and an injured person in the 1200 block of Rae Street. Officers found Allary at the scene, where the 24-year-old was pronounced dead by paramedics.
Cyr was arrested the next day.
During Friday’s hearing, Cyr also received one year for possession of a prohibited weapon and six months for obstructing justice. Those sentences are to be served concurrently to the manslaughter sentence.
