Regina police seized a variety of weapons — from a gun to a sword to bear spray — while arresting three men.
According to police, the incident began Friday when an employee of a business in the 2200 block of 12th Avenue reported seeing two men exchange what appeared to be a gun.
While the responding officers were watching a surveillance video of the exchange, they got a call from two other officers who said they had arrested a man who matched the description of one of the suspects in the video.
That man was in possession of a large knife and a sword, and police confirmed he was the man in the video who was seen handing a gun to a second suspect.
Officers subsequently determined the first suspect was wanted in relation to a taxi robbery that took place June 22. In that case, a man got away with cash as well as the cab, which was later found abandoned.
A short time later, a member of the Canine Unit found a man in the area of the 1400 block of Garnet Street who matched the description of the second suspect from the video.
“Through investigation, (officers) determined he was not the suspect they were looking for in relation to the earlier firearms call,” police said in a release. “However, he was in possession of a firearm, ammunition and a bladed weapon. He was also wanted on a warrant and was arrested.”
Then, just before noon Saturday, officers found and arrested the second suspect from the video. Police allege that when he was arrested, he was carrying bear spray as well as a gun that matched the description of the one seen in the surveillance video.
As a result, a 21-year-old man is facing charges of carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, robbery and two counts of failure to comply.
A 26-year-old man was charged with three counts of breach of a firearms prohibition and two counts of carrying a concealed weapon. And a 27-year-old man is facing charges of carrying a concealed weapon and breach of a firearms prohibition.
