Some Regina residents should be seeing their lights come back on sometime soon.
Early Wednesday morning, 4,255 SaskPower customers in the city were affected by a power outage. As of 11 a.m., that number had dropped to 197.
SaskPower spokesperson Joel Cherry said crews were able to redirect power for many residents, but some were still affected until crews can swap out the broken pole.
Power outages were experienced in areas like Broders Annex, Al Ritchie, Assiniboia East, General Hospital, Dominion Heights and Gladmer Park. SaskPower confirmed on its outage map that power in those areas should be completely restored by 4 p.m.
“The majority of the customers who are still off are in one apartment building,” said Cherry, referencing the 2100 block of Osler Street and Broad Street.
Cherry did not have an estimated time of when power could be returned in that area.
Earlier Wednesday morning, Douglas Schmidt said the power went out while he was making breakfast.
Later, when he was riding by the intersection of Broad Street and 13th Avenue, police cars, fire trucks and SaskPower vehicles caught his attention. Then he saw the power pole.
“The power pole is snapped off right at the base and kind of hanging from the lines above it,” he said.
SaskPower confirmed it got called around 6 a.m. to the corner of 13th Avenue and Osler Street to fix the power pole.
The damage occurred when a semi collided with the pole.
A resident who lives near the damaged power pole confirmed they heard a loud bang Wednesday morning before the power went out.
