A 37-year-old man has been handed an 18-year prison sentence in connection with Regina’s third homicide of 2021.
Richard Crane initially was charged with second-degree murder in the killing of Justin Robert Delorme on Feb. 21, 2021. According to court documents, Crane pleaded guilty to a charge of manslaughter in Regina Court of King’s Bench on Wednesday and was given a sentence of 6,570 days behind bars.
With credit for time on remand, Crane will spend about 14 1/2 years in prison.
A court official said another charge of attempted murder was stayed during Wednesday’s appearance.
According to a police media release from the time, Regina police officers were sent at about 6:30 a.m. on Feb. 21, 2021 to a house on Garnet Street for a call about an injured man.
Paramedics took the 32-year-old Delorme to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Three other people are facing charges in connection with Delorme’s death.
