Construction has begun on two new additions for the Victoria Square Shopping Centre.
A new arcade and a new playground are both expected to open in the fall.
“It’s really not just going to change the mall but change the city,” said Jordan Meyers, the marketing co-ordinator for the mall. “An arcade is something that Regina has been longing for.”
Meyers said the arcade will be different from the average tokens and prizes arcades. The 9,000-square-foot VicSquare Arcade is to feature things like 12-foot-high dance machines, race machines and claw machines.
It will also have birthday party rooms and food vendors. The Arcadium will be supplying the gaming machines.
A new playground will have four levels of climbing and sliding. Construction crews are even raising the ceiling to accommodate a jungle gym.

Constant change is something Meyers said administration staff sees at a community mall.
“You can’t have community without the entertainment aspect,” said Meyers.
Since VicSquare MiniGolf opened in March 2022, more people have been coming to the mall to go putting. When the miniature golf course opened, administration expected 10,000 to 20,000 people coming in the first month. Instead, numbers were around 50,000.
“We are expecting to see quite the surge and more families coming in,” Meyers said about the two new additions.
Meyers said he could not put a price on the cost of renovations at this point.
The VicSquare Fun Park is expected to open in September, and the VicSquare Arcade in October.
