With a week to go before election day, advance polls opened Thursday for the three byelections in the Regina area.
Polls in Regina Coronation Park, Regina Walsh Acres and Lumsden-Morse were scheduled to continue each day through to Sunday, close for the holiday Monday, then open again on Tuesday. The final voting is to happen on election day Aug. 10.
Voters in the ridings could find their polling places at SaskElections. Each of the three open seats had most recently been held by the Saskatchewan Party.
In Regina Walsh Acres, former MLA Derek Meyers passed away in the spring. In Lumsden-Morse, Lyle Stewart stepped away for health reasons as he’s been battling cancer.
In Regina Coronation Park, Mark Docherty quit, saying at the time he wanted to pursue other opportunities. He later spoke on the local Skoop Podcast and criticized the Sask. Party.
In the last provincial election, Regina Coronation Park was by far the closest of the three, with just a few hundred votes separating Docherty from the Saskatchewan NDP challenger.
