North Regina Little League is heading back to Williamsport, Pa.
The host team won the Canadian Little League baseball title Thursday with a 4-3 victory over Vancouver’s Little Mountain Baseball in the final at the North Regina Little League diamonds. The tournament is for 10- to 12-year-olds.
Regina will represent Canada in the Little League World Series, which is to start next Wednesday in Williamsport.
It’s the first time since 2002 that a team from the North Regina Little League organization has won the Canadian title and made it to the Little League World Series tournament.
The B.C. champions were 7-0 in the Canadian championship entering Thursday’s final. North Regina was 4-3, with one of those losses a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Vancouver-based team on Aug. 1 – the first day of the tournament’s round-robin.
North Regina lost its first three round-robin games before winning three in a row to earn a spot in a semifinal. In that game, the host squad downed Quebec 3-2 to earn its shot at the B.C. champs in the final.
