Nearly 14 months after a fatal collision north of Balgonie, a 22-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving causing death.
The RCMP said Brayden Veilleaux of Balgonie was charged last Wednesday. He also was charged with one count of impaired driving causing bodily harm.
According to the Mounties, officers responded June 15, 2022 at about 11:30 p.m., to a call about a two-vehicle collision on Highway 10 approximately 10 kilometres north of Balgonie. At the scene, officers found a car with one person inside and a car with four occupants had collided.
One of those four occupants, a 25-year-old woman from Fort Qu’Appelle, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Another woman from that car was taken to hospital with injuries that were described as serious, while the driver and third passenger were treated for relatively minor injuries.
The man driving the other car didn’t report any serious injuries.
“After continued investigation with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist and in consultation with Crown Prosecution, the adult male driver was arrested in Wolseley on August 9, 2023,” the RCMP release said.
Veilleaux made his first court appearance Thursday.
