The North Regina Little League All-Stars kept their Little League World Series hopes alive Saturday in Williamsport, Pa.
Thanks to 13 strikeouts from starting pitcher Jaxon Weir, the Canadian champions defeated the South Czech Republic Little League team 3-0.
It was the first-ever win by a Saskatchewan-based team at the tournament. The North Regina team that represented Canada at the 2002 tournament went 0-3 in pool play.
On Saturday, Weir also led the way for the Canadians at the plate, going 3-for-3. Treyton Mandziuk and Bryden Nernberg each had an RBI while Braeden McQueen scored on a wild pitch.
Canada, which fell into the elimination bracket after losing 6-0 to Chinese Taipei on Thursday, is to play Mexico on Sunday at 11 a.m. Saskatchewan time.
