Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team is investigating the death of a man while he was in custody of the Regina police.
According to police, an adult male suffered “an apparent medical emergency inside his cell” at the Regina Police Service Detention Unit just before 4 a.m. Tuesday.
Paramedics were called, police said, and the man was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team is a civilian-led unit that investigates serious injuries or deaths involving police, including cases where a death occurs in police custody.
Because the death is now under external investigation, the police service said it would not be providing any further information.
