The Saskatoon Hilltops thrashed the Calgary Colts in their home opener on Sunday to move to 3-0 on the season.
The Hilltops won 50-18 and did it rather convincingly.
At one point, Saskatoon was up 40-0 halfway through the second quarter. Calgary eventually got some points on the board, but there was no looking back from the Hilltops.
Boston Davidsen rushed 15 times for 190 yards for the Hilltops, who dominated in the first half. Saskatoon had 20 first downs, 159 yards rushing and 289 yards passing in the first half while the Colts managed six first downs, 63 yards rushing and 96 yards passing.
The Hilltops finished the game with 563 yards of net offence to the Colts’ 272.
Saskatoon’s Trey Reider completed 17 of 26 pass attempts for 321 yards and three touchdowns. Xavier Sabo was the Hilltops’ leading receiver with 139 yards on four catches; one of his receptions was a 75-yard touchdown.
Liam Oszkowski was 18-for-30 passing for 223 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
The Hilltops will head into the next week on a bye. When they return on Sept. 9, they’ll travel to Regina and Mosaic Stadium to face the Regina Thunder in a clash of 3-0 teams.
