A family was displaced after what Regina Fire and Protective Services called a “significant” house fire in the 700 block of Garnet Street on Friday morning.
Deputy Fire Chief Gord Hewitt said flames originating from the home went through its roof and spread to the adjacent houses, causing significant damage to both to them.
Hewitt said the fire is under investigation, adding it was under control in all three houses just after 5:20 a.m.
“The property on the (left of the house where the fire originated had) a family living in there. They got out safely. There was nobody in the house (on the right),” he added. “The main fire occupancy was completely destroyed.”
Hewitt confirmed the family was able to relocate to another house without needing to get Mobile Crisis involved.
The deputy fire chief said he would like to get some equipment out to the house where the fire originated later on Friday so the fire department can search through it.
“We’re not completely comfortable saying that nobody was injured yet,” he added. “There’s some dangers that occur when a house is destroyed like that. We just need to go and kind of sift through … the damage that’s left there.”
As of 11 a.m., Hewitt confirmed the fire was completely extinguished.
