The City of Regina is offering free trees on Wednesday.
The city said in a release Monday that it’s marking National Tree Day with a second tree seedling giveaway of the year in Victoria Park.
Between 9 a.m. and noon, 1,000 seedlings will be available to residents on a first-come, first-served basis. There’s a limit of one seedling per person.
The seedlings available include Black Hills Spruce, Siberian Larch and Crystal Blue Spruce. There will be different quantities of each type.
“National Tree Day is a chance to give thanks for the amazing things that trees do for us,” Russell Eirich, the city’s manager of open space services, said in the release.
“Trees make our individual homes and communities special places to be. Beyond our community, our trees are one small piece of the puzzle to mitigate climate change and make our world a better place.”
The city said the more than 500,000 hand-planted trees in the community remove the CO2 equivalent of 3,330 mid-sized vehicles from the atmosphere each year.
