A gunshot was allegedly fired after a Unity-area homeowner tried to pursue a group of would-be thieves.
According to the RCMP, a property owner in the RM of Tramping Lake — located just south of Unity — gave chase after a group of people in a black GMC Denali pickup drove onto their property and attempted to steal vehicles.
“The black truck fled and the individual followed the truck,” the RCMP said in a statement. “A second truck, a white Dodge, approached and discharged a firearm. The property owner did not report any physical injuries to police.”
The RCMP said the black truck was a 2013 GMC 2500 Denali. It’s believed to have the Saskatchewan licence plate 340 KCC, and was last seen northwest of Unity in the RM of Senlac.
That vehicle was reported stolen from Kindersley on Monday, police added.
The white pickup was described as a Dodge crew cab with an orange beacon mounted on it. No plate number was available, and it was last seen southeast of Unity.
The RCMP said officers are working to locate the suspects, and asked members of the public to call police if they spot the vehicles.
“If you see these vehicles, do not approach them,” the Mounties cautioned. “If an imminent risk to public safety is identified, we will notify the public.”
