The race to the top of the Canada West football standings continues to be a dog fight.
The Saskatchewan Huskies knocked off the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds on Friday night to bring their record down to 4-1 and improve theirs to 4-1.
Saskatchewan, UBC and the University of Alberta Golden Bears are now in the a three-way tie for the top spot at 4-1.
Saskatchewan started off slowly on Friday, giving up an opening drive touchdown to UBC, but were able to battle back a take a 17-14 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, David Solie would kick two field goals to give the Huskies a 23-14 lead.
After the field goals, UBC would only need five plays to go 75 yards and get into the endzone for a touchdown to cut the Huskies lead to 23-21.
While the quick drive might’ve been deflating, Huskies returner Ryker Frank would restore the cushion for his team as he returned a kick 105 yards to the house.
Frank finished the game with 151 yards on the return and 207 all-purpose yards.
In the fourth, UBC would return a 62 yard punt to the house cutting the lead 30-28. Their next possession would lead to a field goal to give them a 31-30 lead.
The Huskies would eventually get into field goal range with just under five to go and Solie would nail another kick through the field goal poles to give his what eventually end up being the game winning kick and a 34-31 victory.
Huskies quarterback Anton Amundrud who threw for 302 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.
Running back Ted Kubongo led the way offensively for the Huskies contributing 115 yards, including 91 rushing on the ground in the victory.
