The University of Saskatchewan Huskies finished their Canada West regular season with a big win over their University of Regina Rams rivals on Saturday.
The Huskies (5-3) went into Mosaic Stadium in Regina and handed the Rams (1-7) a 43-11 loss. Earlier in the season when these two teams met, the Huskies won 40-6.
Huskies running back Ryker Frank enjoyed a big day on the ground, rushing for 172 yards and two touchdowns. Huskies quarterback Anton Amundrud added a rushing touchdown of his own while also throwing for 280 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Kody Gutek and Caleb Morin hauled in the Huskies’ touchdown passes.
Regina had success on the ground as well, with Olivier Savard having 123 yards. Regina’s only touchdown of the game came from quarterback Owen Sieben, who connected with Rylan Sokul for the score. Sieben had 153 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in the loss.
Saskatchewan has dominated the rivalry recently, with the last Huskie loss to the Rams coming on Sept. 29, 2017, where Regina took home the 50-40 win.
While the Rams failed to qualify for playoffs, the Huskies will have postseason action.
Due to the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds defeating the University of Alberta Golden Bears, the Huskies will be on the road against Alberta on Nov. 4 for semi-final action.
