A tow truck obviously doesn’t make a very good getaway vehicle.
According to the RCMP, a member of the Roving Traffic Unit tried to stop a vehicle on Highway 16 near Maidstone last Wednesday just after 1 p.m.
The Mounties said the driver of the vehicle didn’t stop, and took off at a speed of around 220 kilometres per hour, or close to 140 miles per hour.
Officers started searching for the vehicle and were told it had stopped briefly outside a business off of Highway 16. The Mounties said a search of the area found a duffle bag containing three semi-automatic guns, one long gun and approximately 45 grams of cocaine.
“Officers later observed a tow truck hauling the suspect vehicle,” the RCMP said in a media release. “They conducted a traffic stop and arrested the passengers.”
A 19-year-old man from Surrey, B.C., and a 20-year-old woman from Langley, B.C., were each charged with 20 weapons-related offences, one count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000.
The woman also was charged with one count each of failing to stop for a peace officer and dangerous driving.
They made their first court appearances in North Battleford Provincial Court on Friday.
