The City of Regina says more than 27,000 water meters have upgraded so far in the city as the project moves into the next ward.
According to a release, the project is heading into Ward 2 in the city’s south end.
The city started replacing water meters in homes and businesses in October of 2022. The project is expected to be done by the spring of 2025.

The new technology collects information about a household’s water use, which allows customers to better manage and conserve water. The new meters also help detect leaks.
Customers in Ward 2 are to receive a letter from the city providing details about the project. That will be followed by an information sheet from the contractor explaining how to make an appointment for the upgrade.
“To further enhance the utility customer experience, a new online customer service system will be introduced once a significant number of meters have been upgraded,” the city said in its release.
“This system will allow customers to access account information, view and understand their household water usage, receive timely water meter reads, and benefit from improved customer support. Furthermore, electronic notifications about planned water outages and consumption alerts for high water usage will empower residents to save water and money.”
According to the city, the project is eliminating the need for meter-reading vehicles that emit carbon dioxide (CO2) during their drive-by meter reads. The new system will reduce CO2 emissions in the city by an estimated 10 tonnes per year.
