A taxi doesn’t make for a great getaway vehicle, as an 18-year-old in Regina learned on Wednesday.
According to police, officers were called just before 6 p.m. after a resident on Rae Street saw two men enter a neighbour’s home and come out with electronic in hand.
“The two suspects loaded the items into a waiting taxi cab, got into the cab and it drove away,” the police service said in a statement.
A police officer headed to the initial call spotted the taxi and pulled it over, police said, but the two men inside took off on foot in opposite directions.
“The Air Support Unit followed one suspect from the air as he ran through nearby alleys trying to enter several homes,” police said.

“From the ground, a Police Service Dog conducted a track of the suspect. The suspect was located a short time later hiding in the basement of a home in the 1100 block of Rae Street.”
The 18-year-old was arrested without being bitten by the dog, police said, while the second suspect is still at large.
Inside the taxi, police said officers found a homemade gun, a baton, two knives, a television, two gaming systems and both fentanyl and methamphetamine.
The 18-year-old suspect is now facing a lengthy list of weapons charges, along with breaking and entering and possession of property obtained by crime.
