Charges won’t be laid after a Regina Transit bus hit and dragged a traffic light pole on Friday, as police said the driver suffered a medical emergency.
According to police, officers were called the scene of the crash near the University of Regina just before 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
“When they arrived, they observed a bus stopped at an angle on the side of the road just past the intersection of Wascana Parkway and Kramer Boulevard,” the Regina Police Service said in a statement.
“Underneath the bus was a traffic light, which had been struck by the bus and dragged for approximately 150 yards before the vehicle came to a stop.”
Eight of the approximately 24 passengers on board the bus suffered minor injuries in the crash, police said. Five of them were hospitalized as a precaution, along with the driver who “appeared to be in medical distress.”
Police said their investigation determined the crash happened after the driver suffered a medical emergency, and no ticket or charges will be issued as a result.
The nature of the emergency was not disclosed.
