A number of Regina schools were put into “secure the building” mode Wednesday after someone reported seeing a person with a gun in a vehicle.
Police said in a release that officers were sent to the area of College Avenue and Wallace Street around noon. The call prompted schools in the area to go into “secure the building” mode.

Schools in the immediate vicinity include Balfour Collegiate, Miller Catholic Comprehensive High School, St. Augustine Catholic School and Arcola Community School.
“Police conducted an area check and were able to quickly locate the vehicle and the suspects,” the release said. “The alleged firearm, which remained in the vehicle, was revealed to be a toy gun.”
The “secure the building” protocols were lifted a short time later. Police said no charges have been laid.
According to police, “secure the building” means all outside doors will be locked and monitored by school staff until the protocol has been lifted. Entry or exit is permitted only at the front doors and is monitored by police and school administration.
