On Tuesday, a 35-year-old man charged with first-degree murder appeared in a Regina court.
It was a quick appearance – Shedrek Samuel’s case was put over to Friday so he could get in touch with his lawyer.
According to police, Samuel turned himself into the RCMP in B.C.
The victim in the alleged murder was Roman Miller, who was 32 when he died in July. Police said they got a call early in the morning about a man who was hurt, but he’d died by the time paramedics arrived.
Police didn’t say how he died.
An obituary for Miller described him as a vibrant and beloved soul, with an unparalleled zest for life and talent for music, as well as infectious energy and magnetic personality that lit up every room he entered.
The obituary said he left behind a legacy of love, laughter and boundless kindness.
A GoFundMe set up at the time to help Miller’s family with funeral expenses raised thousands of dollars in just a few weeks.
Police are still looking for a second man in relation to Miller’s death – Daniel (Juma) Drie Atem.
