The Carleton University Ravens proved they’re the best basketball program in the country as they defeated the University of Saskatchewan Huskies women’s basketball team 70-67 in the championship game on Sunday night in Edmonton.
The win marks the Ravens’ second consecutive U Sports title.
Trailing 58-54 heading into the fourth quarter, the Ravens turned to a defence that proved too much for Saskatchewan. The Huskies were only able to score nine points in the fourth, while the Ravens didn’t slow down and scored 16 to win the game 70-67.
In the biggest game of her collegiate career, Huskies point guard Gage Grassick was superb, scoring 30 points in 38 minutes and shooting 11-for-23 from the field.
In her final game as a Huskie, forward Carly Ahlstrom scored 13 points.
This was the first time since 2022 that the Huskies made it to nationals. In 2023, the team failed to make it out of the Canada West tournament.
The Huskies will be looking to bounce back in 2025, when the national championship is hosted by the University of British Columbia.
