The Brandon Wheat Kings and Swift Current Broncos are lighter in the wallet.
The WHL announced the clubs have been fined due to actions at the end of their game Saturday, a 6-3 Broncos win in Swift Current.
The Broncos were fined $1,000 for inadequate security at the game as well as another $1,000 for the actions of their coaches and players.
980 CJME has reached out to the WHL for clarification about the inadequate security. On a video of the incident, the play-by-play announcer says a fan threw a garbage can into the Wheat Kings’ bench, and Brandon players can be seen looking into the stands.
Brandon was fined $750 for actions of the Wheat Kings’ players.
Swift Current’s Caleb Wyrostok was also suspended five games for being what the league called “a repeat offender.” According to the gamesheet, he was given just one penalty in the contest, a game misconduct at the end of it.
The gamesheet indicates there were 11 penalties given out at the 20-minute mark of the third period. Two other penalties were handed out just 22 seconds before that.
Brandon’s Carter Klippenstein and Swift Current’s Dawson Gerwing were both given two game misconducts at the end of the contest, including one for being involved in a second fight that occurred at the same stoppage of play as another scrap.
