The so-called “grandparent scam” has returned to Regina.
In a release Thursday, the Regina Police Service said it had received “multiple” calls about the scams over the past three days.

The fraud involves someone calling a senior and telling them about an emergency situation the caller is facing. As the police service said, the fraudster tries to “play upon (the senior’s) emotions to compel them to release thousands of dollars.”
“The ‘grandchild’ asks that they provide thousands of dollars to post bond for bail money, repair the car, cover lawyer’s fees, or pay hospital bills for someone allegedly hurt by the ‘grandchild’ in an accident,” police said in the release.
“In some cases, fraudsters posed as police officers and the victims provided their home addresses to pick up bond money.”
The police reminded people that officers will never pick up bond money at a person’s home.
Anyone who thinks they’re a victim of a scam or suspects someone is trying to defraud them should call police at 306-777-6500 or 911 in an emergency.
