Four minors were arrested in Regina on Friday night after two of them allegedly attacked a man with bear spray and a pellet gun.
Police spoke to the victim just before midnight on Cameron Street, who confirmed he’d been hit with the stinging spray and a pellet, but he turned down treatment from paramedics.
A police dog led officers to a home on the same block.
“The residence was cleared and investigation determined two of the occupants, ages 16 and 17, had shot and bear-sprayed the victim. They were arrested and charged as a result,” the Regina Police Service said in a statement.
“A 15 year-old taken into custody was also found to be in breach of curfew conditions of a release order.”
A fourth person – a 14-year-old girl – was arrested soon after, police said, as she “arrived and began actively interfering with investigation and ignoring police commands.”
None of the youths can be publicly named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
In March, the Government of Saskatchewan issued new regulations around bear spray, aiming to prevent its use by criminals. Anyone charged under the new rules could face fines of up to $100,000.
