Two Regina families became homeowners last Friday thanks to help from Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan.
The houses, which were built for previous Habitat clients, are located in Rosemont and Eastview.
Kelsey Stewart, Habitat Saskatchewan’s interim executive director, said that while the organization is best-known for new builds, it also has a program that allows it to purchase back Habitat homes from previous owners, which means even more families can be helped.
“Through Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan’s Buy Back Program, we have the power to extend our mission far beyond the confines of the select number of new builds each year,” Stewart explained in a statement.

“While the spotlight often shines on these new builds, every family served is an achievement.”
According to the non-profit housing organization, one of the families – Eyasu and Msgana and their children – previously lived in a downtown apartment that wasn’t safe for the young family.
“Partnering with Habitat Saskatchewan gives us hope and the encouragement to continue working hard to afford our own home,” Eyasu said in a statement.
“Homeownership is a relief because it means providing our family with a safe and secure place to live.”
Stewart said the group’s goal is to help improve the community by helping families build strength and independence through affordable housing.
“By empowering families with homeownership opportunities, we build stronger communities, one family at a time, fostering a future where everyone thrives,” she said.
