The Carrot River community has been busy cleaning up and repairing damage after a major storm swept through the area on Sunday evening.
The storm pummeled the area with high winds and hail, leaving widespread damage in its wake. Trees and power poles were knocked down all throughout the northeastern community, and several roofs were left damaged.
Mayor Roman Charko said the storm even flipped over an occupied camper at the local campground, though the person inside wasn’t badly injured.

“Neighbours are cleaning up. There’s people who have come from other places to clean up. People are tarping their roofs where the shingles are gone,” said Charko.
Now, Carrot River is getting help from the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency.
According to the agency, 19 firefighters were sent to the community on Tuesday in order to help remove debris and offer other support as required. A mobile command post equipped with tools including communications and weather forecasting equipment is also being deployed in Carrot River to act as a staging area for the response.
“The SPSA is ready and able to provide other support to Carrot River as needs arise,” the agency said in a statement.
Estevan, Gravelbourg, Blaine Lake and several other communities in the province also reported damage after the storm on Sunday.
