An 81-year-old former priest has been arrested in Regina in connection with an alleged sexual assault dating back to the early 1970s in Manitoba.
According to the RCMP, Constantin Turcoane allegedly committed the assault while serving as a priest at a church in Lennard, Man. He was arrested on June 13 after turning himself in to police, the Mounties said, and was released pending a scheduled court appearance.

According to the RCMP, the report first came to police in March of 2022.
βA female in her 60s reported that she had been sexually assaulted multiple times over the course of two years by the priest when she was a parishioner at St. Elijah Romanian Orthodox Church,β the RCMP explained in a statement.
βAt the time of the assaults, the (alleged victim) was 11-12 years of age.β
The Mounties said the investigation included a search of historic church records, and police believe there may be other victims.
