Ontarian Katie Vincent added a gold medal to the bronze she won in the canoe yesterday, taking the top spot in a blistering women’s 200m canoe final today in Paris to take Canada’s total gold haul to eight.
Vincent won with a world record time of 44.12, just ahead of American Nevin Harrison, who won the silver with a time of 44.13.
The medal also means that Canada has won 25 medals overall in Paris, after taking home 24 from the Tokyo Olympics.

Canada won its seventh Olympic gold medal in the men’s 4X100 m relay with a time of 37.50 seconds on Friday.
The gold medalists are Andre De Grasse, Aaron Brown, Brendon Rodney and Jerome Blake.
B.C. athlete Camryn Rogers made Canadian Olympic history on Tuesday when she threw 76.97m on her fourth attempt to take the gold medal in women’s hammer throw. It was Canada’s sixth gold medal of the Paris Games.
The gold was Canada’s third ever in an Olympic women’s athletics event after Ethel Catherwood won the high jump and the women’s 4x100m relay won their event in 1928.
It was also the second hammer throw gold for Canada in Paris — a feat only ever achieved before by Poland.
Hammer thrower Ethan Katzberg was just short of an Olympic record with his first throw of 84.12 metres on Sunday, but his throw was still good enough to earn the B.C. athlete Canada’s fifth gold medal at the 2024 Paris Games.
Swimmer Summer McIntosh won Canada’s fourth gold medal, and set an Olympic record of 2:06.56 s, in the 200m Individual Medley on Saturday.
McIntosh also earlier won the country’s second and third gold medal for the women’s 400-metre individual medley, and 200-metre butterfly, where she set an Olympic record time of two minutes and 3.03 seconds.
Canada’s first gold medal at the 2024 Olympics in Paris was won by Christa Deguchi in the women’s 57-kilogram judo event.
