A fertilizer spill near Balgonie has closed eastbound lanes of Highway 46, White Butte RCMP said.
RCMP said in a news release on Saturday that there was no fire or injuries reported, but people in the immediate area should use caution as the fertilizer was considered hazardous material.
Police added that the eastbound lanes of Highway 46 would be closed for an undetermined amount of time — “at least several hours” — as clean-up of the road continues.
Clean-up crews are also working in the areas of the Highway 1 overpass and the Highway 10 overpass at Balgonie and motorists should expect delays.
No further details were provided, but RCMP asked motorists to check the Highway Hotline for updates.
