A brand new Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation fund is designed to relieve financial stress felt by parents while their kids are in the hospital.
The ‘Dr. G NICU/PICU Fund’ will focus on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as well as the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). It was made possible after a $250,000 donation from Dr. Laurentiu Givelichian, a NICU and PICU Physician and Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation Board Chair.

Givelichian said that the idea behind the fund is to provide another option for parents who travel to Saskatoon with their kids to receive care at the hospital.
“This fund will try to offer some ease on the families’ financial stress,” he said. “This fund is designed to cover some of the costs that no other source will cover.”
Givelichian said the money will help cover travel and accommodation, as well as other essential needs like baby formula.
Families are eligible to apply for funding right now, and can do so at the hospital through a form provided by a social worker.
Givelichian encouraged his colleagues to donate so they can grow the fund and help even more families.
The physician said he’s always felt fortunate to be able to care for young children, “particularly the sickest ones – the ones that need it the most.”
Katelyn Lay, whose infant son has spent time in both the NICU and PICU, told Givelichian she was grateful for the help.
“You’ve not only made a difference in our son’s health, but you’ve also given us peace of mind as parents,” Lay said.
