Parking at the Regina General Hospital is about to get a lot easier.
A new, four-level, 1005-space parkade opened at the hospital on Thursday morning, providing improved parking for patients, visitors and staff. The $22.4 million structure includes 320 spaces for the public and 685 secure spaces for staff members. Parking fees and payment systems will remain unchanged.
The parkade, which has been under construction for over a year, also includes a digital display to let drivers know how many spaces are available, and features several pay-by-use electric vehicle charging stations for both staff and visitors.

“This expansion reflects our government’s commitment to supporting health care in Regina and across Saskatchewan,” David Marit, minister responsible for SaskBuilds and procurement, said in a statement.

The parkade will also include security improvements, the provincial government noted, which include cameras, motion-sensor lighting and a “duress system” providing users with a quick way to alert hospital security about emergencies or safety issues.
Eligible staff members can begin using the parkade on Monday morning.
The parkade was announced after staff and visitors to the hospital reported serious issues with parking around the facility, with staff parking often full and limited, timed parking on the surrounding streets.
