A Saskatoon school is getting a bit of a facelift after a truck struck it on Sunday night.
According to police, the 39-year-old man refused to stop for them during a traffic stop in the area of Confederation Drive and Laurier Drive just after 10 p.m.

The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado pulled over on 22nd Street near Witney Avenue. Police found he did not hold a valid driver’s license and breaching his court-imposed conditions.

In the news release, officers wrote, “When he was advised of his arrest, the male started the vehicle and fled at a high rate of speed before striking a school in the 2500 block of 18th Street West.”

Amanda Walter, who lives close to the school, said, “It was the staff room that got hit.”
W.P. Bate Community School posted to Facebook on Sunday, “Our school might be a bit banged up, but we are open tomorrow and excited to see our students!”
Colleen Cameron, Manager of Communications and Marketing for Saskatoon Public Schools said in an email that initial reports indicate structural, interior, and content damage to the staff room at the school.
“Estimated repair costs are not known at this time,” the email said.
Cameron also said there was no interruption to classes at the school.

The driver has been charged with Dangerous Driving, Failure to Stop, Obstruction, and breaching court-imposed conditions.
