The May Long Weekend is shaping up to be a bit cooler than normal, but fairly sunny across most of Saskatchewan.
A rainfall warning in the southeast corner of the province is expected to be lifted on Friday. As of early Friday morning, Estevan and Moose Mountain got hit the hardest on Thursday, with about 50 millimetres of rain falling. In Regina, about 16 millimetres of rain fell, which was less than expected.

Dave Carlsen, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said the weather won’t be too bad in Saskatchewan’s largest cities over the May Long Weekend, though temperatures will be a little below normal.
In Regina, some overnight lows of 0 C are forecast, along with daytime temperatures in the low teens. In Saskatoon, the overnight lows are expected to stay above freezing, with daytime temperatures in the mid teens.
“Good for camping, good for sitting by a fire. Good for just hanging out and enjoying one another’s company,” said Carlsen.
Snow is no longer forecast for Regina on Saturday, and sunshine is expected after the clouds leave on Friday evening.
“Then it looks like we’re pretty much clear sailing for the long weekend,” Carlsen said.
“Probably not swimming kind of weather, but not bad for just hanging out with your friends and family.”
Carlsen said he doesn’t expect high winds over the long weekend either.
“It looks like it’s going to be mostly fairly calm throughout the weekend,” he said. “There might be a little bit of a southeast breeze, up to 15 or 20 km/h, but nothing really like a rip-roaring kind of wind.”
On top of that, he said the long weekend should be fairly dry, with just “a spotty shower here or there” in the forecast.
“I don’t expect a whole lot,” he said. “It should be a fairly dry weekend.”
In northern Saskatchewan where a number of wildfires are burning, Carlsen said there is a chance of some rain on Monday.
“As the system kind of skirts through the central and northern prairies, there may be a little bit of rain to help with the fires and relief there, but it is still a little bit uncertain,” he explained.
“It is fairly far into the future, but as it looks right now, that is our best hope for some rain.”
