The Shoe fire that started near Lower Fishing Lake on May 7 and is now burning near Candle Lake, grew overnight from 407,956 hectares to 471,418.
The blaze has Type 1 and Type 2 crew members, heavy equipment support, helicopter and air tanker support, value protection specialists, a company that provides super absorbent fire gels and local fire departments on scene, but the blaze is still not contained. The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency said crews continue to work the fire north of Love Lake, maintaining structure protection on values and extinguishing hot spots on Highway 916.

The Pisew fire that’s caused significant damage in La Ronge is now 141,905 hectares in size. Yesterday, it was measured at only 83,630 hectares, but high winds fanned the flames back into the community. The SPSA weather notes said precipitation was ‘nil’ but winds were expected to blow a little slower Wednesday, up to 40 kilometres per hour.
Crews will be placed in Hall Lake, Sucker River, Wadin Bay, Nut Point and Bigstone. All other resources are being based around the community of La Ronge.
The Jaysmith fire, northeast of Missinipe, is 88,099 hectares. It previously forced the evacuation of the community of Brabant. On Wednesday, crews will do back burns from east of Brabant on Highway 102 to the northeast along the highway to tie into an existing burn. During the burn, the highway will be closed.

The size of the Pelican2 fire, northeast of Pelican Narrows, remains the same at 20,425. Crews will continue to mop up hotspots around the community and around the three lodges. The SPSA said, as conditions dictate, they will move crews to Jan Lake, as that will be the priority.
The Wolf fire, west of Denare Beach, has devastated a lot of the community.
The SPSA said Denare Beach has been split into six sections with engines placed in each. Sprinkler setups have been deployed along the perimeter of the community and on critical infrastructure.
“Back-up tanker units are in each sector to support the engines as well as three roving patrols on UTV’s. One spotter has been utilized by accessing the high points within the community for a lookout, as no helicopter or other aerial platform is available.”
The Club fire, north of Creighton, has charred 60,537 hectares between the Saskatchewan and Manitoba sides. Very little precipitation was received yesterday. The fire is being handled by Manitoba on the Manitoba side.
There are currently 20 active wildfires burning in the province; eight of them are not contained. More than 15,000 people have been evacuated from 34 communities in Saskatchewan.
