The Real Exhibition Association Limited’s (REAL) search for a new CEO is officially over.
On Monday, it announced Rick Bennett as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective June 16.
“I’m honoured to join REAL at such a pivotal moment,” Bennett said in a statement. “There’s strong momentum already underway, and I’m excited to help accelerate that progress and shape a future our team and community can be proud of.”

Owned by the City of Regina, REAL District is an event complex and serves as a hub for sport, business and entertainment. It’s a venue for major events in Regina like the Queen City Exhibition, Canada’s Farm Show and Canadian Western Agribition.
It’s also home to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Regina Pats, Regina Soccer Association, minor and recreation sports, concerts, trade shows and more.
Former CEO Tim Real was removed in January 2024 by a unanimous vote following the ‘Experience Regina’ fiasco.
Trent Fraser was appointed as interim CEO at the beginning of April, after the previous interim CEO Roberta Engel resigned.
Fraser stepping up came shortly after Regina City Council gave city administration up to 18 months to hash out options on what to do with REAL going forward, which could mean changing its governance model, changing its business model, or dissolving the organization altogether.
The municipal corporation has been struggling over the last couple of years, including facing questions about whether it will continue to exist.
According to REAL, Bennett has over 20 years of “international executive experience in hospitality, sports, tourism, and venue operations,” leading operations for destination venues, multi-use districts and civic venues.
REAL also extended its gratitude to interim CEO Fraser, saying his steady leadership was instrumental.
“We’re grateful to Trent for his commitment and leadership,” Jaime Boldt, Chair of the REAL Board of Directors, said.
“He’ll remain involved during this onboarding period to ensure a smooth and thoughtful transition.”
In a statement, REAL said Bennett’s early work will focus on financial stabilization, workforce engagement, stakeholder trust and long-term planning.
