Greg Morgan: Let’s start with the idea first; was it yours? Or did Tourism Regina approach you first?
Sara Lindsay: It must have been about a month and a half or two months ago. Tourism Regina approached me and asked if I’d be interested in collaborating with them to create a signature scent for the city in a candle and a diffuser oil.
When the city calls you up and says, ‘Hey, we want you to do this candle.’ Do you ask them, ‘What does Regina smell like?’
Lindsay: We made an appointment, and they came to my studio. I presented them with a few different blends, and we together went through what we thought would be a smell that as many people as possible would like. We didn’t want it to be too fruity, too spicy, too whatever.
What is going into this scent of Regina?
Lindsay: The top four most prevalent scents we ended up with were cedar, vanilla, lavender and sage.
What does it retail for?
Lindsay: The candle is a 12-oz candle, so it’s a pretty big candle, and it retails for $54; the diffuser oil is 30 ml, and it retails for $42.
What has the reaction been like?
Lindsay: So far, great. We’ve had a positive response so far, and I just hope it keeps going that way. We’re just hoping it kind of creates a memory of the charm of the city.
The City Lights candle is available to purchase at City Hall and the Regina Airport.
