“When they arrived on scene, they met with the male victim who told police he was standing on the street, when a vehicle drove by, circled the block and then came back and stopped in front of him,” the Regina Police Service explained in a statement.
“A male suspect exited the vehicle, approached the victim and attempted to grab the chain from around his neck. The victim was able to back away and contact police.”
About 20 minutes later, officers spotted the suspect vehicle in a parking lot on East Victoria Avenue. All five occupants were arrested, and a search of the vehicle turned up a loaded shotgun, a rifle, ammunition, seven knives, a hatchet, bear spray, cash and drugs.
All five occupants of the vehicle, ranging in age from 20 to 47, were variously charged with robbery, possession of stolen property, breaching court orders, possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking and a wide array of weapons charges.
All of them appeared in court on Monday morning, police said.
