A recent investigation by the Saskatchewan Conservation Officer Service resulted in a Red Pheasant Cree Nation man being charged with unlawful hunting and several other offences.
The man was charged and sentenced for outfitting without a licence, while an American resident which the man guided unlawfully was also fined $1,400 for hunting illegally.

According to the Saskatchewan Corrections, Police and Public Safety, the man pleaded guilty to driving while prohibited, failing to stop for a peace officer and outfitting without a license.
He was sentenced to 379 days in custody, to be followed by two years of probation, along with a one-year driving prohibition and a three-year hunting suspension. He appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on July 31.
On Oct. 11, 2024, North Battleford Conservation Officers were investigating complaints of unlawful outfitting in the Wilkie area when they encountered a vehicle believed to be involved in hunting.
According to the ministry, when the officers activated their emergency lights to conduct a compliance check, the driver fled. A second conservation officer encountered the vehicle a short while later and tried to stop it, but the driver once again evaded the pursuing officers.
Conservation officers later contacted RCMP for assistance.
Despite efforts to stop the vehicle using tire-deflation devices, the ministry said the driver “continued to flee before being tracked to a residence on the Red Pheasant Cree Nation.”
