On Thursday, SaskTel explained just what had caused the service outage that affected nearly the whole province for hours last Friday.
According to the Crown corporation, the issue was caused by a software update that it applied to equipment within the SaskTel network which handles voice over LTE and integrated business communications voice services.

SaskTel said it had to reroute voice traffic in order to restore services, and it has since reversed the changes.
Though SaskTel didn’t announce that anything was fixed until later in the afternoon on Friday, the company said it had wireless voice service restored by about 11:30 a.m. on Friday, and business services were up and running again by about 4:45 p.m.
On Thursday, SaskTel said network traffic was back to normal and its services were functioning normally.
